Pope Francis Stepping Down, Says ‘There is no God’

VATICAN CITY, Rome – Pope Francis shocked the Catholic world today announcing that he plans on stepping down from his position. Papal Resignation is extremely rare, and this will only be the 7th time in the history of the church. Pope Francis made his announcement from his balcony in Vatican City to thousand of shocked spectators.

“I have come to the conclusion there is no God,” said Pope Francis, a man who has become known for his unorthodox views on the Catholic church. “I have dedicated my life to the church. Clearly, so many wasted years of unanswered prayers. I can no longer in good faith head the church anymore, as whatever spirit that had filled my heart is gone.”

A shocked crowd of onlookers became extremely quiet as the Pontiff continued, many of whom openly wept.

“I will stay on long enough for another Pope to be chosen, of course. I know many of you will be upset, but please be happy for me and my new life. I plan on spending my remaining years traveling, maybe finding a good woman and settling down. Hell, maybe even a good man. Who knows? It’s a new day, and I solemnly believe that everyone should choose to live their life the way they want. I wish you all the best and don’t let my decision stop you from believing in an imaginary God, if that’s what you want to do.”

”Pope Francis’ decision comes as no surprise to Vatican insiders, his hard-line stance on altar boy molestation, his generosity to the poor, and his blessing of gay marriage have made unpopular among priests of the church,” says Vatican reporter  Francesco Rinaldi. “Some say the Pope was being blackmailed to step down by Church officials. Whatever the reason, most look forward to his departure so the Church can get back to business as usual – hating gays and bashing sinners.”

One of Largest Transfers of Public Wealth to Private Hands: Our Staggering War Economy

The cost of our massive military and endless wars is almost beyond comprehension, and non stop.

By Tom Engelhardt

The money should stagger you. Journalist James Risen, author of  Pay Any Price: Greed, Power, and Endless War, a revelatory new book about the scammers, counterterrorism grifters, careerist bureaucrats, torture con artists, and on-the-make privatizers of our post-9/11 national security state,  suggests that the best figure for money spent on Washington’s war on terror, including the Iraq and Afghan wars, is  four trillion dollars. If you add in the bills still to come for the care of American soldiers damaged in that global war, the figure is undoubtedly  significantly higher. In the process, an array of  warrior corporations were mobilized to go into battle alongside the Pentagon and the country’s intelligence and homeland security outfits. This, in turn, transformed the global struggle into a highly privatized affair and resulted, as Risen vividly documents, in “one of the largest transfers of wealth from public to private hands in American history.” Halliburton offshoot KBR, for instance, took remarkable advantage of the opportunity and became “the largest single Pentagon contractor of the entire war,” more or less monopolizing the Iraq war zone from 2003 to 2011 and “receiving a combined total of $39.5 billion in contracts.”

Heart of stone.

Can’t break a heart of stone.
No, you’re only going to hurt yourself.
It’s all or none, I know.
Because I promise you that if it’s meant to be,
It’s up to me. Memories, I wont let them go.
I’m leaving here, alone.
Can’t break this heart of stone.
Heaviest words upon my spine. My mouth is broken, arms are bound.
Alarms are sounding. Harm’s around. Trouble comes. Charms abound.
Solitary, single. Phantom limbs that tingle.
A feeling in the air tonight and static in the signal.
I bite the dust. Smash the sky. Fight and cuss. Asking why.
My last chance, passing by. Time to kiss your ass goodbye.
Watch the clock. See the setting sun disappearing.
Lots of talk. She regretting none, but I’m not hearing.
Caught stealing. Revealing distraught feeling.
Got staring at the ceiling and wounds that are not healing.
Faking no abuses. Complication introduces
Mistaken, so it’s useless but making no excuses.

The last letter of Z. A. Bhutto from death cell to Benazir Bhutto

The last letter of Z. A. Bhutto from death cell to Benazir Bhutto

Excerpts from the last letter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto from death cell to Benazir Bhutto quoted in Stanley Wolpert in his book ‘Zulfi Bhutto of Pakistan’:

“The longer Martial Law remains the shorter will be the remaining life of Pakistan,” Zulfi wrote from his death cell. Sindh will say Khuda Hafiz [good-bye] before Baluchistan and NWFP. The Indians made two leaders select the Janata Prime Minister, one was Jai Prakash Narain and the other was a Sindhi, Acharya Kripalani. Also, [L. K.] Advani is very powerful. The dream of their life is to get back Sindh, the Sindh of Shah Latif and the Karachi Port, the exploited and “raped” Sindh, the Sindh of the Sufis. The Hindus of Sindh always considered “Sufism” to be a bridge between Hindus and Muslims … all these forces are . . . more active than ever before. . . . Pakistan is decomposing very fast. In Europe there was “Balkanization.” Here, there will be “Bangla-deshization.” The process is in motion. Thanks to Zia’s follies it has been accelerated. … If I am not a part of Pakistan, in that case Sindh is not a part of Pakistan. . . . [M]y roots in the soil of this land are very deep, much deeper than of those who came across the border due to disturbances or fear of disturbances. . . . My genesis to political fame is written in the stars. . . . The last days come for every actor on the stage. There is no exception to this immutable rule. There are no nightmares more dreadful than the last days of a usurper, of a man who stabs his own benefactor. Brutus did it to Caesar to prevent despotism. . . “Brutus is an honourable man and so are all of them! Yes, all of them are honourable men . . . the engines of oppression and symbols of ingratitude.” . . . For over a year and a half I have been in solitary confinement… I have not left the death cell to have a shaft of sunshine or the embrace of fresh air. … I am the Rana [lord] of Shah Latif. In that sense I am the Rana of not only Larkana but of the whole of Pakistan, and if no longer of the whole of Pakistan, certainly of Sindh…We are on a razor’s edge.

A Virus That Makes Humans Stupid?

A Virus That Makes Humans Stupid? ‘Innocuous’ Algae Pathogen That Impairs Cognition Discovered

A virus known to attack green algae in lakes and rivers can also infect human brains — and it’s making dummies out of us. The virus, called ATCV-1, can impair cognitive activity, learning and memory, essentially making a person who has the virus less intelligent, researchers in the U.S. have found. Scientists said this is the first time the virus has been observed in people.

“This is a striking example showing that the ‘innocuous’ microorganisms we carry can affect behavior and cognition,” Robert Yolken, a virologist at Johns Hopkins Medical School in Maryland, who led the original study, told the Independent. All people have physiological differences “encoded in the set of genes each inherits from parents, yet some of these differences are fueled by the various microorganisms we harbor and the way they interact with our genes,” Yolken said.

Scientists discovered the virus accidentally while working on an unrelated study into microbes in the human throat. Throat swabs drawn from study volunteers showed unexpected traces of ATCV-1 in their DNA. Out of the 92 healthy adults screened in the study, nearly 44 percent of them had the virus, the authors said.

Study participants who had the virus performed around 10 percent worse on cognitive tests. Additionally, researchers noted the presence of the virus was correlated with lower attention spans and a “statistically significant decrease in … visual processing and visual motor speed.” While the virus is found in freshwater, there was no indication the only people who had it were swimmers and boaters. “These are agents that we carry around for a long time and that may have subtle effects on our cognition and behavior,” Yolken told Healthline. “We’re really just starting to find out what some of these agents that we’re carrying around might actually do.”

Subsequent tests involving mice produced similar results, Newsweek reported. Researchers inserted infected green algae into the mouths of mice and had them perform a series of lab tests. It took animals that had been injected with the virus 10 percent longer to find their way out of mazes. They also spent 20 percent less time exploring new objects than uninfected mice, researchers found.

Bank of Canada Governor says Work for Free!

PolazPoloz’s prescription for unemployed youth: Work for free

By TAVIA GRANTThe Globe and Mail

Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz has sparked controversy by suggesting young people ought to consider unpaid work as a way to gain job experience.

“When I bump into youths, they ask me, you know, ‘What am I supposed to do in a situation?’ I say, look, having something unpaid on your CV is very worth it because that’s the one thing you can do to counteract this scarring effect. Get some real-life experience even though you’re discouraged, even if it’s for free,” Mr. Poloz told reporters Monday in Ottawa.

Stephen Hawking Gets Star Treatment in ‘Theory of Everything’

The only thing more stressful than making a film about Stephen Hawking, the most famous theoretical physicist since Albert Einstein, is watching that film while sitting next to Stephen Hawking.

“It was very, very stressful,” James Marsh, director of ‘The Theory of Everything,’ told NBC News about watching a rough cut of the film with the famous scientist. “It was a harrowing viewing, but he was very generous and gracious about it.”

The film isn’t a science film. Instead, it’s a love story about Stephen Hawking and his first wife, Jane, who met at Cambridge shortly before he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at 21 years old.

It helped that Hawking made for an intriguing subject. He might be one of the most respected scientists alive today, but he had a wild streak back then.

“He liked to drink, he liked to have fun, he liked to carouse,” Marsh said. “He was quite idle and, in his own book, he writes about how little work he did. He was a wastrel.”

“Then the illness galvanized that brilliant mind into doing proper work, and that is the cruel irony of his condition — the illness stimulated the great work that he did, because he felt like he had so little time.”

More than half of British people believe religion does more harm than good, survey finds

More than half of people in the UK believe religion does more harm than good, while less than a quarter believe faith is a force for good, a new survey has revealed.

And the viewpoint even applies to those with strong faiths – one fifth (20 per cent) of Britons who describe themselves as being “very religious” said religion was harmful to society.

The findings from the study for The Huffington Post, which was carried out by Survation, challenge widely held beliefs about religion and its place in modern British society.

Instead Of A Burial, Consider Becoming This Sparkly Alternative.

You have a lot of options as a dead person. Burial and cremation are popular ones. You can opt for a “green” burial, where the body is not embalmed and buried in a biodegradable container. You could also have a “sky burial,” where you’re left out as a snack for scavenging birds. (Really. This is a thing. Look it up.)

One Swiss company is taking a more glamorous approach to human remains. Talk about saving space!

Humanity humiliated by Pakistan lynching: Vatican

ROME: A top Vatican official has described the lynching of a Christian couple in Pakistan as a humiliation for all of humanity.

Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the chair of the Roman Catholic church’s council for interfaith dialogue, said he had been profoundly shocked by accounts of the horrific death of Shehzad Masih and Shama Bibi.

“How can we remain impassive before such crimes, justified in the name of religion?,” Tauran said on Vatican Radio, urging Muslim leaders in Pakistan to vigorously condemn the killings.

“It is all of humanity that is humiliated,” he said, adding: “The first victims are in fact Muslims because these misdeeds give an image of Islam that is terrible.”

Shocking video shows ISIS fighters bartering for young women at ‘slave girl market’

By Chris Richards

Green and blue-eyed girls fetch the most money at the bazaar, held in Iraq’s second city Mosul

This shocking video purports to show Islamic State (ISIS) fighters bartering over Yazidi women at a “slave market”.

The clip shows ISIS militants negotiating the price of the girls from the Iraqi ethnic minority with traders.

Blue and green-eyed young girls fetch a higher price at what one of the men dubs “slave market day”.

The footage begins with this man saying to the camera: “Today is the slave market day.

“Today is the day where this verse applies: ‘Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess, – for (then) they are not too be blamed’.

He then adds: “Today is distribution day God willing.

“Each one takes his share.”
